Arthur Nakazato Message From The Editor In this issue of the Newsletter, Chris McGrath and Chris Ramos offer their thoughts on the intrica- cies of joint defense agreements in complex litiga- tion (Page 1); Tu-Quyen Pham and Samrah Mahmoud sit down with Magistrate Judge Karen E. Scott to discuss her first year on the bench (Page 6); and we introduce the Young Law- yer’s Division of the FBA/OC, headed by FBA/OC Secretary Van Nguyen (Page 10). As 2016 draws to a close, there are exciting developments on the horizon. We welcome the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, which will be hearing oral argument at various locations in Orange and Los Angeles Counties the first week of October. This historic visit by the Federal Circuit— which typically sits in Washington, DC—has generated considerable ex- citement in our legal community and, no doubt, will help spotlight the Central District’s position as a home to sophisticated patent litigation cas- es. Then, at the FBA/OC’s annual Judge’s Night on October 27, we will celebrate our judicial officers and the FBA/OC’s accomplishments this past year, install new officers and directors, and kick off the 2016-2017 term. The Newsletter is open for business—submissions are always welcome and encouraged. We look forward to hearing from you, our colleagues in the local bar, on matters of significance to federal practitioners and judg- es. It is going to be a great year. ______________________________ Matthew K. Wegner Matthew K.
